Pushed Aside: Reclaiming Gage, a commissioned opera about Fayetteville suffragist and freethinker Matilda Joslyn Gage, will receive its second performance one night only at the Catherine Cummings Theatre, 22 Lincklaen St, Cazenovia NY, on Friday, July 20, at 7:30 pm.
The full-length opera, featuring a challenging avante-garde score by Persis Parshall Vehar and libretto by Gabrielle Vehar, depicts the career of Gage, who cofounded the National Woman Suffrage Association with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. Gage was later driven from the movement over her controversial ideas, particularly her unflinching criticism of religion as a facilitator of woman's oppression.
There will be only one performance in Cazenovia, NY happening on July 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Admission: $25 adults, $15 seniors/students, 12 & under free
