1200 Walnut Street, Elmira, New York | Officially Marked Monument
This location, the Woodlawn Cemetery, serves as the burial ground for Samuel L. Clemens, better known as the author Mark Twain. Much of Twain’s family, including his mother, wife, son, and daughter, are also buried in this cemetery.
The grave site is dominated by a memorial obelisk bearing Twain’s likeness. Individual headstones are arranged along the path leading to the obelisk.
This site has been included among two hundred sites on the New York State Path Through History, which commemorates the writing of Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in Elmira. For announcement, click here. For full list of Path Through History sites, click here.
