This historical marker commemorates the life and achievements of woman's rights and dress reform activist Amelia Bloomer. Its site was apparently chosen with an eye toward conspicuous display along U.S. Route 20 (Cayuga Street) near downtown Seneca Falls; its location does not correspond with any known landmark in Bloomer's life in that community. Placed in 1998, it is among the last official historic markers erected by the State of New York. (Historic marker placement in New York State is now carried on by a private organization, the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.)
