Lucy Colman lived in a house on this site during the final part of her life. Here she composed her 1891 autobiography, Reminiscences, and here she died on January 18, 1906, aged eighty-eight. The neighborhood is composed of small wood frame houses in various states of repair. It is not known when the house at 412 Gifford or its neighbor at 410 were demolished.
For some years an empty lot, in 2007 410–412 Gifford became the site of a grassroots community garden. One thinks Lucy Colman might have been pleased.
